Barreirinha lies in the state of Amazonas, on the Paraná do Ramos, a side channel within the vast river system of the lower Amazon. On a map the town forms a small, compact cluster of streets along the waterfront, with forest, lakes and seasonal floodplain surrounding it on all sides.
