Bauang is in La Union province on the northwest coast of Luzon, just south of the provincial capital, San Fernando. The map is organised around a long shoreline facing the West Philippine Sea. The national highway runs roughly parallel to it, and the town's barangays form a chain of clusters along the road.
The Bauang River reaches the sea here, and its winding course and broad mouth break up the straight coastal band. Inland, the land rises gradually toward the hills. Rice fields and farm plots fill the space between settlements and give the map a fine, irregular grain.
The town is known for its beaches and seaside resorts, which have long made it a stop for visitors travelling up the Ilocos coast. A Bauang map poster brings together the coast, the river and the road, three lines that define daily life in this part of La Union.
The main road follows the shore closely, linking the town's settlements into a long chain. It gives the map a strong north–south axis.
The river winds across the lowland and widens as it meets the sea. It is the most organic line in the composition.
A narrow belt of resorts and houses lines the sand, pressed between the highway and the water. It marks the town's link to the sea.
