Bembèrèkè is in the Borgou department of northern Benin, on the main road that runs from the south of the country toward the Niger border. The road is its backbone. Houses, markets and side streets have grown up along it, and the town is longer along the road than it is wide.
Away from the road the streets become looser. Compounds and yards make up irregular blocks, which open into fields and savanna at the edge of town. The land is gently rolling and mostly open, with farming all around. The area is part of the traditional home of the Bariba people.
