Big Spring takes its name from a natural spring that was once a rare reliable watering place on the dry plains of West Texas. The town grew up around the railroad in the late nineteenth century, and the map still shows it: a straight rail line and a downtown grid of rectangular blocks aligned with the tracks.
Interstate 20 passes along the edge of town, and highways fan out towards Midland, Lubbock and San Angelo. On the southwest side, a mesa rises above the grid. It is home to Big Spring State Park, whose loop road circles the top and shows up on the map as a small closed curve amid the straight lines.
A Big Spring map poster suits anyone tied to Howard County, the oil country of the Permian Basin, or life along I-20. The contrast between the flat, orderly street grid and the sudden relief of the mesa gives the design an unusual shape for a plains town.

Big Spring is the kind of place people carry with them: a hometown, a posting, a stop on long drives across Texas. A map on the wall keeps its shape of grid, rail and mesa close.
Add your own title, subtitle and coordinates line, a family name or an important date for example, and choose from five styles: Classic black and white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. The $9 HD files include six print sizes.
