Bīshah lies in the Asir Region of southwestern Saudi Arabia, on the eastern side of the highlands, where the mountains slope down toward the interior plateau. The town follows Wadi Bishah, one of the longest valley systems in the Arabian Peninsula. On a map, its layout cannot be separated from the course of the wadi.
Palm groves and farms line the valley floor, and Bīshah has long been known for its dates. From above, the farmland appears as a dense band of plots and tracks following the wadi. The town's streets spread out on either side in a looser grid, with open desert beyond.
Upstream, the King Fahd Dam holds back the waters of Wadi Bishah and is one of the largest dams in the kingdom.
