Bodmin sits in the middle of Cornwall, on the western edge of the granite upland that bears its name. From above, the town stretches along a hillside, with the old centre running along its main street and newer housing on the higher ground around it. To the northeast the roads thin out quickly, and the open moor takes over.
For a long time Bodmin was Cornwall's county town, and its civic buildings reflect that. Bodmin Jail, built in the eighteenth century, is now a visitor attraction. The parish church of St Petroc is one of the largest in Cornwall. The Camel Trail, a cycle path along a disused railway, starts nearby, and a heritage steam railway still runs from the town.
A Bodmin map poster shows a town arranged around routes, old and new. The curving former railway lines, the main street and the bypass to the south give the composition a layered look, while the moorland beyond leaves wide open space at the edge of the frame. It is a quiet, solid map, much like the town.
The historic centre follows one long street along the slope. On the map it is a clear line with smaller lanes branching off on both sides.
Old railway alignments, one now a heritage line and another the start of the Camel Trail, sweep around the town in gentle arcs.
Northeast of town, the streets stop and open moorland begins, giving that side of the poster a broad, empty expanse.

Ko e hā ʻa Bodmin
Walkers, cyclists on the Camel Trail and families with Cornish roots all have their own reasons to remember Bodmin. A map of the town on the edge of the moor is a quiet way to keep that connection.
