Capesterre-Belle-Eau stretches along the east coast of Basse-Terre, the mountainous western wing of Guadeloupe. From above, the town and its hamlets follow the coastal road, while numerous rivers and ravines run down from the forested slopes of the volcanic interior to the Atlantic shore. The name refers to the abundant fresh water that flows through the municipality.
The municipality is known for the Chutes du Carbet, a series of waterfalls high on the slopes of La Soufrière, and for the Allée Dumanoir, a long avenue lined with royal palms. Banana plantations cover much of the lower land, and Capesterre-Belle-Eau is one of the main banana-growing areas of Guadeloupe.
A Capesterre-Belle-Eau map poster shows the town's long, thin shape along the sea, crossed at regular intervals by watercourses from the mountains. Inland, the roads fade into forest and the lines become sparse. The map captures an island landscape defined by volcanic height, running water and the Atlantic coast.
The main road runs parallel to the shore and links the town with its hamlets. The settlement follows it as a long, narrow band.
Many watercourses descend from the volcanic interior to the sea. They cross the coastal strip one after another.
A long, straight avenue lined with royal palms. On the map it is a clear line cutting through the surrounding plantations.
