Caripito lies in the state of Monagas in eastern Venezuela, on the banks of the San Juan River. On a map the river is the dominant feature, a winding line through low, green country, with the town's streets arranged along its bank and extending inland.
In the twentieth century Caripito became an oil town, with a refinery and river port that shipped crude down the San Juan towards the Gulf of Paria. That industrial past shaped the layout, with company districts, installations and docks alongside the older residential streets.
A Caripito map poster brings those layers together: the curves of the river, the more ordered blocks of the town and the traces of the port. Surrounded by wetlands and forest, it is a place where water defines the edges of the map.

Caripito grew as an oil refining and shipping town in the twentieth century, and its riverside installations and company districts remain part of its layout.
The town sits in low, humid country, with wetlands and forest around it that leave broad empty spaces around the compact urban area.

Caripito holds strong memories for families who lived through its oil years and for those who grew up by the river. A map poster keeps that sense of place in a calm, simple form.
