Chhor lies in Umerkot district in south-eastern Sindh, where the irrigated plains of the Indus give way to the sand dunes of the Thar Desert. On the map, this transition is clearly visible: irrigated fields and canals on one side, and a more open, sparsely marked landscape on the other. The town sits between them, organised along a railway line.
The built-up area is compact, with a market core of close-set lanes and a more regular layout in the planned areas, including a military cantonment. Roads run out towards Umerkot and neighbouring settlements, and beyond them the land becomes increasingly dry, with scattered villages and tracks crossing the sand.
