Coreaú is a municipality in the northwest of Ceará state, in the semi-arid interior of Brazil's northeast. The town takes its name from the Coreaú river, which runs through the area and flows north toward the Atlantic coast. In a dry landscape, the river corridor is the most important line on the map.
The town itself is compact, with a small, fairly regular grid of streets around a central square and church. Beyond the built area, the map opens up quickly into scrubland and farmland, crossed by a few roads and tracks leading to outlying villages.
A Coreaú map poster presents the town as a tight, clear form beside its river, surrounded by the sparse lines of the sertão. It is a quiet composition, but one with a strong sense of place.
The river that gives the town its name winds through the surrounding land, forming the main natural line on the map in an otherwise dry setting.
Streets are arranged in a compact pattern of blocks around a central square, the traditional core of small towns across Ceará.
Outside the town, the map becomes sparse, with a few roads and tracks crossing wide spaces of scrub and farmland.
