From above, Cuyahoga Falls is organised around its river. The Cuyahoga comes through the city in a deep, wooded gorge, and the streets follow its curves instead of crossing it in a straight line. Bridges mark the few places where the two banks meet. Around the gorge, neighbourhoods spread out in a loose residential grid that runs south into Akron without any clear edge.
The falls that gave the city its name are rapids and drops over exposed rock, and the old downtown grew up next to them. On a map the riverfront is a narrow band where roads, water and green space sit close together. The northern edge of the city meets the Cuyahoga Valley National Park, and the built-up blocks give way to forest along the valley.

Downtown riverfront
The historic centre sits right beside the falls. Short streets, bridges and riverside paths come together here, giving the map its densest and most detailed cluster.
