Ko e mape
Dedza lies on high ground in Malawi's Central Region, close to the border with Mozambique. On the map, the town is a compact cluster of streets arranged around the M1, the main road linking Lilongwe with the south. To one side rises Dedza Mountain, its forested slopes breaking the pattern of roads and fields, while farmland and small villages spread across the surrounding plateau.
It is one of the highest towns in Malawi, and its cooler climate sets it apart from the lowlands. Dedza is known for its pottery workshop, which produces ceramics sold across the country. In the district nearby, the Chongoni Rock Art Area is a UNESCO World Heritage site with a large concentration of rock paintings made over many centuries.
A Dedza map poster shows the town's small street network, the line of the main road and the rising ground of the mountain. It is a simple, grounded image for anyone who knows this corner of Malawi's highlands.
The mountain rises next to the town, its slopes and forest creating a large open area on the map that contrasts with the compact street grid below.
Malawi's main north–south road runs past the town, and on the poster it forms a strong line around which Dedza's streets are arranged.
Around the town, farmland and scattered villages spread across the high plateau, their tracks and paths adding a fine texture to the outer parts of the map.
