Denain lies on the Escaut, the river known further downstream as the Scheldt, in the old mining basin of northern France. The map shows an industrial town. Tight rows of worker housing sit in regular blocks, railway lines and canalised river cut through the town, and large irregular plots mark where mines and steelworks once stood.
Denain gave its name to a battle in 1712, when French forces won a decisive victory during the War of the Spanish Succession. In the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, the town became a centre of coal mining and steelmaking. Its large steelworks closed in the late 1970s, and that change shaped the town for decades.
A Denain map poster shows those layers together. The river and railways give strong lines, the mining-era housing forms fine repeating patterns, and the former industrial sites leave open spaces in the fabric. For people from the Nord, it is a familiar and honest picture of the region.
The canalised river runs through the town, a straight waterway that once carried coal and steel from local industry.
Rows of small, uniform worker houses form dense, regular patterns typical of the northern French coalfield.
Large open or reused areas mark where heavy industry once stood, breaking up the town's grid on the map.

Denain is a place of strong family ties and working history. A map of the town is a way to honour parents and grandparents who worked in its mines and mills, or simply to keep a piece of the Nord close.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line, then pick Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Noir and Blueprint suit the town's industrial character especially well.
