Dhing lies in the Nagaon district of central Assam, on the wide floodplain south of the Brahmaputra. From above, the town is a compact cluster of streets around its market area, surrounded by low-lying fields, ponds and small watercourses that shift with the monsoon seasons.
The town gained national attention through sprinter Hima Das, who grew up in a nearby village and became known as the Dhing Express after her international success in athletics. On the map, Dhing itself remains a modest place, with roads leading out to villages across the plain.
