Dolisie is the third-largest city in the Republic of the Congo and the main town of the Niari department. It lies in the Niari valley, inland from the Mayombe forest that separates it from the Atlantic coast. On the map, the railway is the central feature, running through the town and shaping the layout of its streets.
The town grew around the Congo–Ocean Railway, which connects Pointe-Noire on the coast with Brazzaville. The centre has a fairly regular pattern of blocks near the station, while the outer districts are more loosely arranged, following the gentle slopes of the valley. Beyond the town, the map quickly opens into savanna and forest.
Dolisie was known as Loubomo for a period before returning to its original name. A Dolisie map poster presents the town as a railway settlement, with its streets ordered around the line and set within the open landscape of the Niari valley.
The historic line runs through the town, a long curving stroke that anchors the composition and explains the town's shape.
Near the station, streets form a more regular pattern of blocks, the densest and most structured part of the map.
The town sits in open valley country, and the map fades from streets to wide space at its edges.
