Dún Laoghaire sits on the southern shore of Dublin Bay, about twelve kilometres from the centre of Dublin. On a map it is defined by its harbour. Two great granite piers, the East Pier and the West Pier, curve out from the shore and almost close around a wide sheltered basin, one of the largest artificial harbours in the country, built in the first half of the nineteenth century.
The town was called Kingstown from 1821 until 1920, and for well over a century it was the main ferry crossing to Holyhead in Wales. Behind the waterfront, streets climb gently inland in an ordered pattern of terraces, squares and Victorian houses, while the coastal railway runs close to the sea. To the south, the shoreline continues toward Sandycove and the Forty Foot bathing place.
A Dún Laoghaire map poster captures that simple, strong composition: the enclosing arms of the piers, the straight edge of the seafront, and the quieter residential grid behind. The coastline gives the design a clear line between land and water, which reads especially well in minimal black and white. It suits anyone who has walked the East Pier on a Sunday or left Ireland from this harbour.
The two granite piers extend far into Dublin Bay and nearly meet, enclosing the harbour basin in a shape that is recognisable even at small print sizes.
The coastal railway and the seafront road run side by side along the shore, drawing a firm edge between the town and the open water of the bay.
Inland from the harbour, terraces and squares form a regular, gently rising pattern of streets laid out when the town grew around the new port.

Dún Laoghaire is a place people leave from and return to, which is why its map ends up on walls in Dublin, London and much further away. Set the title and a meaningful date, perhaps the year you moved or married, with coordinates on the line below.
Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand each treat the sea differently, from stark to warm. Download six print sizes for $9 as 300 DPI PNG and PDF, without watermark, or order a matte print with an optional wooden frame.
