El Kseur lies in the lower Soummam valley in Béjaïa province, north-eastern Algeria, about twenty kilometres inland from the coast. The river runs along the valley floor, and the town occupies the flatter ground beside it, with the slopes of Kabylia rising behind. On the map, the built-up area is squeezed between the water and the hills and stretches along the main road.
The Soummam valley is a natural corridor through the region, and both the road and the railway follow it between the coast and the interior.
