El Malah lies in Aïn Témouchent province in northwest Algeria, between Oran and the city of Aïn Témouchent. Known in the colonial period as Rio Salado, the town takes its name from the salty river nearby, and both the Arabic and the Spanish name refer to salt. From above it shows the planned layout common to towns of that era, with straight streets and rectangular blocks.
Around the town, the plain is given over to farming, and the region was long associated with vineyards and wine. On the map, main roads leave El Malah toward Oran and Aïn Témouchent, and the countryside is drawn as wide parcels crossed by tracks and the meandering line of the river. The Mediterranean coast lies a short distance to the north.
An El Malah map poster presents a clear, well-proportioned town plan. The orderly centre, the roads leading toward larger cities and the looser pattern of fields make a balanced composition, and in black and white the grid looks especially crisp. It is a considered choice for families connected to the town across generations.
The core of El Malah follows a regular grid of straight streets and rectangular blocks, a layout that reads clearly on the poster and gives it a strong sense of order.
The river that gave the town both its Arabic name and its former name, Rio Salado, winds across the plain nearby, softening the geometry of the map.
Main roads link El Malah with Oran to the northeast and Aïn Témouchent to the southwest, drawn as long lines crossing the farmland around the town.
