Évosmos lies on the western side of Thessaloniki, part of the continuous urban area of Greece's second city. From above, it is one of the densest parts of the metropolitan map: narrow streets forming small blocks, almost entirely filled by the multi-storey apartment buildings that define Greek cities of the late twentieth century.
The ground rises gently from the flat land near the port and industrial areas toward the hills to the north, and the street pattern follows these slopes in a mix of straight roads and short, irregular links. Main avenues connect Évosmos with central Thessaloniki and the ring road, which runs along its upper edge.
An Évosmos map poster shows a place that grew quickly, with many families arriving in the twentieth century, including refugees from Asia Minor after 1922. In black and white, the density of blocks becomes a fine, nearly textile pattern, broken only by the main avenues, squares and the few open spaces between neighbourhoods.
Small blocks and narrow streets cover most of the area, creating one of the most tightly packed textures on the Thessaloniki map.
The land climbs toward the hills to the north, and the streets adapt to it, bending and shortening as the terrain rises.
Main avenues run toward central Thessaloniki and the ring road, clear lines that tie the suburb into the wider metropolitan grid.

Ko e hā ʻa Évosmos
Évosmos is home to many families whose stories began elsewhere and continued here. A map of the neighbourhood is a quiet tribute to that, and its dense pattern makes a strong graphic image on any wall.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates, perhaps with a family name or a year, and choose from five styles, including Noir and Blueprint. HD files are $9, or order a printed poster with a wooden frame.
