Falkirk lies in the Forth Valley, roughly midway between Edinburgh and Glasgow, and its map is shaped as much by movement as by settlement. Railways cut across the town, the Forth and Clyde Canal and the Union Canal trace long level lines through the district, and the River Carron winds along the northern side on its way to the estuary. From the centre, streets fan outward over gently rising ground.
Two modern landmarks are easy to find from above. To the west, the Falkirk Wheel, the rotating boat lift that joins the two canals, sits where the waterways meet at different heights. To the east, the Kelpies, a pair of giant steel horse heads, stand in Helix park beside the canal near the Carron. The line of the Roman Antonine Wall also passes through the area.
A Falkirk map poster rewards a slightly wider frame. Callendar Park, with its estate house and woodland, forms a large open shape to the south-east of the centre, and the canal corridors give the composition long horizontal lines that hold the busier residential streets together. The town's industrial past and its newer leisure landscapes are both legible in the street plan.
The Forth and Clyde Canal and the Union Canal run as long, calm lines through the district, meeting at different levels at the Falkirk Wheel on the western side of town.
East of the centre, the parkland around the Kelpies opens a broad green space beside the canal, a pale and spacious area on the poster against the denser housing.

Ko e hā ʻa Falkirk
Falkirk is a place people are proud to come from, and a map carries that quietly: the walk along the canal towpath, the school near the park, the first flat off the High Street. It suits a hallway or a study, or someone who has moved away and misses home.
