Fuefuki lies in the eastern part of the Kofu Basin in Yamanashi Prefecture, west of Tokyo. From above, the city is a patchwork. Clusters of streets and houses are scattered among orchards and fields, with the Fuefuki River and other channels crossing the flat basin floor. Mountains rise steeply around the basin's edges.
The area is one of Japan's leading fruit-growing regions, especially for peaches and grapes. In spring the peach orchards bloom across the basin. Fuefuki is also home to Isawa Onsen, a well-known hot spring resort. On clear days Mount Fuji is visible from parts of the city, above the ranges to the south.
