Garwolin is in the Mazovian Voivodeship, south-east of Warsaw, on the main route from the capital toward Lublin. From above, the town has a clear centre, a market square with streets branching out from it, and newer housing estates and industrial areas spreading out along the main roads. The river Wilga flows past, adding a curved, green line to the map.
The town was badly damaged in September 1939, when it was bombed early in the war, and much of it was rebuilt in the decades that followed. The map shows this layering. The old street layout survives in the centre, while larger postwar blocks and wider roads fill the surrounding districts.

Wilga river
The Wilga winds past the town in gentle bends. Green banks and meadows follow it, forming a natural edge to the built-up area.
Lublin route
The main road between Warsaw and Lublin passes the town, now largely on a bypass. Its long, straight line shows Garwolin's position on a major national corridor.
