Gaspar lies in the Itajaí valley in Santa Catarina, southern Brazil, between Blumenau and the coast. From above, the Itajaí-Açu river is the defining feature. It winds through the valley in wide loops, and the town sits along its banks. Wooded hills rise on both sides, limiting where streets and neighbourhoods can grow.
The region was settled largely by European immigrants in the nineteenth century, and its towns share a similar pattern: a centre near the river, with roads and houses following the valley floor and side valleys. A Gaspar map poster captures this clearly. The river bends dominate the frame, with the town fitted into the flat land between them.
Bridges cross the river at several points, linking the two sides of town, and main roads run along the valley toward Blumenau and Itajaí. In black and white, the poster contrasts the strong curve of the river with the finer network of streets. The darker, hilly ground at the edges completes the picture.
The wide river loops through the town in broad curves, giving the map its strongest and most recognisable shape.
Bridges connect the two banks at several points, stitching together neighbourhoods on either side of the water.
Wooded hills rise around the town, confining development to the valley floor and giving the map dark, textured edges.
