Gion is an area in the northern part of Hiroshima, within Asaminami Ward. It was once a separate town before becoming part of the city. On a map it occupies flat land along the river valley north of central Hiroshima, with a fine grid of residential streets and green hills rising on either side.
The district is largely residential, with homes, schools and local shops filling the valley floor and main roads running north towards the mountains of the interior. The contrast between the dense lowland and the unbuilt slopes is typical of Hiroshima's northern suburbs.
A Gion map poster brings out that contrast. The valley streets form a detailed band through the centre of the frame, the river adds a natural line, and the hills appear as open spaces at the edges. The result is a map with clear shape and real depth.
A close network of residential streets fills the flat land of the valley, forming the densest and most textured part of the map.
A river runs through the valley plain towards central Hiroshima, drawing a long, gently curving line through the neighbourhoods.
Steep, green slopes rise on either side of the valley, leaving broad unbuilt areas that frame the streets and give the design contrast.

Ko e hā ʻa Gion
Gion is home to many Hiroshima families, and its map is a personal reminder of a childhood neighbourhood, a school or a first apartment. The valley shape makes it distinctive rather than a generic city grid.
You can set the title, subtitle and coordinates line yourself, for example with a street name or a year, and choose from Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Paper gives the hills a gentle look.
