Güimar lies on the eastern side of Tenerife, in the Güimar Valley, which slopes down from the island's central mountains to the Atlantic. The town itself is set on the hillside above the coast, and its streets follow the slope, while roads wind down to the coastal area of Puertito de Güimar.
The valley is marked by old volcanic cones, lava fields and agricultural terraces. On the map, the dense town centre gives way to scattered buildings, farm tracks and the sharp line of the TF-1 motorway running along the coast.
Güimar is best known for its step pyramids, stone structures studied by the explorer Thor Heyerdahl and now part of an ethnographic park. A Güimar map poster captures the town's descent from hillside to sea, with the coastline forming a clean edge at the bottom of the design.
The historic centre sits on the slope, with streets that bend and step down the terrain rather than following a regular grid.
Winding roads link the town with the coast, crossing the lower valley and meeting the Atlantic at the small coastal settlement.
Cones, lava fields and terraces mark the land around the town, leaving open, lightly drawn areas between the settlements.

Ko e hā ʻa Güimar
Güimar appeals to people who have lived on Tenerife, visited the pyramids, or who have a personal link to the east of the island. The long slope from mountain to sea gives the map a strong sense of direction.
