Guojia is a town in Chongqing municipality in south-western China, in the mountainous north-east of the region. The land here is rarely flat, so the town has grown wherever a valley floor or gentle slope allowed. Streets follow the contours, buildings step up the hillsides, and roads leave town along winding routes that trace the folds of the terrain.
The wider region belongs to the Three Gorges area of the upper Yangtze basin, a landscape of deep valleys, rivers and farmland worked into the slopes.
