Guōlèmùdé, better known as Golmud, stands on the southern edge of the Qaidam Basin in Qinghai, at nearly 2,800 metres. From above, the city is laid out on broad, straight avenues across flat, arid ground. The grid is generous, with wide blocks and long roads, and it ends abruptly where the desert begins.
Golmud is known as a gateway to Tibet. The Qinghai–Tibet Railway runs from here across the plateau to Lhasa, and major highways also set off from the city. The Qaidam Basin around it is rich in salt lakes, including the vast Qarhan salt flats to the north, which support a large potash industry.
A Guōlèmùdé map poster captures a city designed as a staging post in a large, empty landscape. The broad grid, the railway lines and the roads that leave toward the Kunlun Mountains all read clearly in monochrome. Around them, the empty space of the page stands in for the basin itself.
Wide, straight roads cross the city in a regular pattern. The spacious grid makes the map feel open and calm, unlike denser Chinese cities.
The city is a key point on the Qinghai–Tibet Railway toward Lhasa. Rail lines and yards form strong linear elements on the map.
The streets stop sharply at the dry ground of the Qaidam Basin. The contrast between grid and emptiness defines the poster.

For travellers who crossed the plateau by train, or for people from Qinghai, a map of Golmud marks the starting point of a long journey. Its broad, spare grid makes a quiet, architectural print.
You can personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line, adding the date of a trip to Tibet for example. There are five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. It is available as HD files in six sizes or as a printed poster.
