Humenné is a town in the Prešov Region of eastern Slovakia, in the valley of the Laborec river where the lowland meets the first hills of the Carpathians. It has been a regional centre for centuries. Its best-known landmark is the manor house, a Renaissance residence rebuilt from an earlier castle, which stands in a park at the head of the town centre.
Next to the manor, an open-air museum of folk architecture brings together wooden buildings from the surrounding villages, including a wooden church. On the map, the centre forms a long axis leading away from the manor park, with streets branching off it. Later housing estates of apartment blocks spread along the valley floor.
The Laborec runs past the town in a gently curving line, and wooded hills rise close by, giving the plan a clear frame.
