Hwado is a town within Namyangju in Gyeonggi Province, east of Seoul. On a map, the terrain is the first thing you notice: forested hills and ridges surround a series of valleys, and the built-up areas follow those valleys rather than spreading across open ground.
Apartment complexes appear as groups of evenly spaced rectangular blocks, while older village areas keep smaller, winding lanes that follow streams and hillsides. Roads and rail lines run through the valleys, connecting the town with Seoul and the rest of Namyangju, and the forest leaves large areas of the map calm and open.
Hwado's position between the hills and the capital region makes it a residential area for many commuters. A Hwado map poster shows the balance between new apartment districts, older villages and the wooded ridges that give this part of Gyeonggi its character.
Wooded hills surround the town, leaving wide open areas on the map and framing the built-up valleys between them.
Modern apartment complexes appear as groups of parallel rectangular blocks, the most regular and geometric shapes in the composition.
Roads and rail lines follow the valleys, drawn as flowing lines that connect the separate parts of the town.

Hwado is a place many families choose for its hills and quieter pace, close to Seoul but separate from it. A map of the town is a good way to mark a new home or a period of life spent there.
