Jūybār lies on the flat, fertile coastal plain of Māzandarān, a short distance south of the Caspian Sea. The name refers to streams, fitting for a landscape crossed by small rivers and irrigation channels. From above, the town is a compact grid of streets surrounded on all sides by the fine pattern of flooded rice fields.
This is one of Iran's main rice-growing areas, and the fields around the town divide the land into small, irregular plots. Villages line the roads between them.
