Kadi lies in Mehsana district on the level plains of north Gujarat, within reach of Ahmedabad. From above, the older part of town is a tight cluster of narrow streets and closely packed buildings. Newer residential societies and industrial plots spread around it along the main roads, in looser and more regular patterns.
In the past Kadi was the seat of a district within the princely state of Baroda under the Gaekwads, and traces of that era remain in the old town. Today it is best known as an industrial centre, particularly for cotton ginning and edible oil processing, which draw on the farmland around it.
