Kandyagash lies in the Aktobe region of western Kazakhstan, south of the regional capital, in open, lightly rolling steppe. It is above all a railway town. It developed at a junction where the main line toward Central Asia meets a branch running west toward the oil-producing areas near the Caspian. From above, the tracks and sidings form the most prominent shape on the map.
The streets follow the logic of the railway. Straight residential blocks run parallel to the lines, with the station area and depot tracks forming a long band through the town. Beyond the last houses, the steppe stretches away with only roads and a few tracks crossing it. The town carried a different name during part of the Soviet period and later returned to its current one.
A Kandyagash map poster is a composition of lines: the fan of rail tracks, the regular street grid and the long roads leading into empty land. It suits the minimalist style well, because so much of the character of the place comes from its railway engineering and the open steppe around it.
Several lines meet here, with sidings and yard tracks spreading into a wide band. On the poster they form a bundle of fine parallel lines that dominates the town.
Residential streets are laid out in straight blocks aligned with the railway. The orderly pattern reflects the town's growth as a planned transport settlement.
The built area ends sharply, and beyond it the map is almost empty apart from roads and tracks. This contrast gives the poster its sense of scale and distance.

Ko e hā ʻa Kandyagash
Many people from Kandyagash have family ties to the railway, and many have moved to larger cities. A map of the town, its tracks and its streets, is a meaningful way to remember where they grew up or where their parents worked.
