Keflavík is on the northern shore of the Reykjanes Peninsula in south-west Iceland, facing the bay of Faxaflói. Since 1994 it has been part of the municipality of Reykjanesbær, together with neighbouring Njarðvík. For most travellers it is their first view of Iceland, as the country's main international airport lies just outside the town.
