Khardah lies on the east bank of the Hooghly in North 24 Parganas, part of the long chain of towns running north from Kolkata. From above, it is a narrow band of dense settlement between the river on the west and the Sealdah suburban railway on the east. Lanes run mostly east to west, linking the station side to the ghats on the water.
The town belongs to the old industrial riverbank of Bengal, where mills, temples and bathing ghats once stood side by side along the Hooghly. On the map, the fabric is fine and irregular: small plots, narrow lanes, ponds (pukur) scattered among the houses, and the occasional larger compound. The river gives the edge a broad, calm line.
A Khardah map poster shows the typical Hooghly town layout, tight, old and turned toward the water. It rarely appears on its own in atlases, which makes a personalised print more meaningful to those who know it. The dense lanes turn into a fine, detailed pattern when printed at larger sizes.
The river forms the western edge of the town, with ghats and lanes reaching down to it, the widest and calmest element on the map.
The line from Sealdah runs north–south along the town's eastern side, a straight axis that frames the dense neighbourhoods.
Small tanks sit among tightly packed houses and narrow lanes, creating the fine detailed texture typical of old Bengal towns.

Khardah is often simply called home by people who commute to Kolkata or have moved much farther away. A map of its lanes between river and railway is a personal piece that few others will have.
