Khuzdar is the main town of central Balochistan, set in a wide upland valley surrounded by dry mountain ranges. From above, the settlement is modest and compact, a tight cluster of streets and walled compounds in the middle of a landscape that is otherwise almost entirely rock, gravel fans and seasonal stream beds. The contrast between the small built area and the open country around it is the defining feature of the map.
Its position explains its importance. The N-25 highway linking Karachi with Quetta passes through the town, and Khuzdar serves as a stopping point and market for a large, thinly populated region. On a map the highway is the clearest line on the sheet, entering from one side of the valley and leaving from the other, with the town gathered along and around it.
The town is also a seat of education for the province, home to an engineering university. A Khuzdar map poster shows how a regional centre looks when geography does most of the drawing: a small knot of streets, a few roads fanning out, and folded ridges on every side that turn the paper into a study of emptiness and connection.
The main road between Karachi and Quetta runs through the valley and the town, a long unbroken line that shows why Khuzdar became a crossroads for central Balochistan.
Streets and compounds cluster tightly on the valley floor, forming a dense patch of pattern that contrasts with the open, unbuilt ground stretching away in every direction.
Dry stream beds cross the valley and spread into gravel fans, carrying water only after rare rains and adding faint branching lines where the map data records them.

Ko e hā ʻa Khuzdar
Khuzdar rarely appears on posters, which is precisely the point for people from the town or those who studied there. The map is spare and honest, a small settlement held in a wide valley, and it looks striking framed on a plain wall.
