Kitwe is one of Zambia's largest cities and the main centre of the Copperbelt. It grew around the Nkana copper mine in the early twentieth century, and the mine still shapes its map. Large industrial areas, tailings and plant sit beside the town. Their forms are very different from the residential streets.
The city is divided into distinct townships, each with its own street pattern. Some have curving, planned roads from the colonial and mining-company era, while others are denser and more recent. A compact commercial centre lies in the middle, linked to the townships by a few main roads.
To the west, the Kafue River winds through the landscape, one of Zambia's most important rivers. Kitwe is also home to the Copperbelt University. A Kitwe map poster shows a town whose layout still reflects the industry that built it.
Large, irregular industrial areas and mine workings sit next to the city. On the print they appear as bold, unusual shapes among the streets.
Residential areas form distinct clusters, each with its own pattern of roads. It is a clear record of how the mining town was planned.
The river winds past the city to the west. Its meandering line softens the edge of a map otherwise shaped by industry.

Ko e hā ʻa Kitwe
For families connected to the Copperbelt, Kitwe is where work, school and home meet. A map of its townships and mine is a very personal record of that life, and a strong graphic image too.
You can add a title, subtitle and coordinates line of your own, such as a township name or a year. The print comes in five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand.
