Komárom lies on the south bank of the Danube in northern Hungary, directly opposite Komárno in Slovakia. The two were a single town until the border was drawn along the river after the First World War, and today the Elisabeth Bridge joins them. On a map, the Danube runs through the frame as a wide band, with the Hungarian town spreading south from its bank.
The town is known for its fortifications, built in the nineteenth century as part of one of the largest defensive systems of the Habsburg Empire. The Monostor Fortress lies to the west, the Igmánd Fortress to the south and the compact Star Fortress beside the river. Together with the forts across the Danube, they are on UNESCO's tentative World Heritage list.
A Komárom map poster shows a town defined by water and defence. The river crossing sits at the centre, and the angular outlines of the fortresses stand out against the streets. The residential districts spread south along the main roads. It is a map with a clear story: two countries, one river and a shared past.
The river forms a wide band through the frame. The Elisabeth Bridge links Komárom to Komárno, and the crossing is also an international border.
West of the centre, this vast nineteenth-century fortress appears as a large angular shape, with its bastions and ramparts drawn in precise detail.
Beside the Danube, the compact star-shaped fort adds a sharp geometric outline to the riverbank, one of the most recognisable forms on the poster.

Ko e hā ʻa Komárom
Komárom matters to people on both sides of the river and to anyone interested in the history of Central Europe. A map that shows the bridge, the forts and the border in one image is a meaningful piece for a home or an office.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line, for example with both town names or a family date. Choose one of five styles, from Classic black & white to Sand, and order a $9 HD download or a printed poster.
