Lahat is a small town in the Kinta Valley of Perak, a short distance from Ipoh. The valley was once one of the richest tin-mining areas in the world, and Lahat grew during that period as one of the settlements that served the mines. From above, the town is a modest grid of streets surrounded by greenery, former mining land and scattered housing.
The legacy of tin mining is still visible on the map. Former mining pits, now filled with water, appear as irregular ponds and lakes around the town, while the limestone hills that characterise the Kinta Valley rise nearby. Together they create a landscape unlike most Malaysian towns, where water and rock play as large a role as streets.
A Lahat map poster captures this combination of small-town streets, mining ponds and surrounding hills in black and white. It suits families with roots in Perak, people who grew up around Ipoh and anyone drawn to the history of the tin industry that shaped this corner of Malaysia for more than a century.
Former tin-mining pits, now flooded, form irregular pools around the town, adding soft, organic shapes that are the most distinctive feature of the map.
The centre of Lahat is a small, regular grid of streets and houses, a compact focal point within the wider valley landscape.
Limestone hills and green slopes surround the valley floor, giving the map a strong sense of place and framing the town between Ipoh and the surrounding countryside.
