Lincoln lies in the northwest of Buenos Aires province, in the flat heart of the Argentine pampas. Like many towns founded on the plains in the nineteenth century, it follows a strict grid. Square blocks of equal size surround a central plaza, and wide avenues mark the edges of the original plan. Beyond them, the land opens into large, regular fields.
The town is widely known for its carnival, which is recognised nationally for its handmade floats and costumes built by local groups. For most of the year life here follows the agricultural calendar, and the routes to the surrounding farms and neighbouring towns cross the plains in long, straight lines.
