Little Elm sits in Denton County, north of Dallas, on the eastern side of Lewisville Lake. The lake dominates any map of the town: its irregular shoreline pushes deep coves and inlets into the land, and the streets have grown around those edges rather than through them. Water takes up a large share of the frame.
Much of the town was built in recent decades as the Dallas area expanded northward. That shows in the street pattern, with loops, cul-de-sacs and gently curving collector roads arranged in neighbourhood-sized pods.
