Lucé borders Chartres to the west and forms part of its continuous built-up area in Eure-et-Loir. On a map, there is no clear boundary between the two. Streets run from one into the other, and Lucé's residential districts and housing estates spread west from the edge of the cathedral city.
Beyond the town, the land opens into the Beauce, one of France's great grain plains. The change from streets to open fields is abrupt. Long, straight field boundaries and farm roads replace the curving roads and cul-de-sacs of the suburb.
