Mangaldan is a municipality in Pangasinan, on the flat coastal plain that wraps around Lingayen Gulf in the northern Philippines. It lies close to Dagupan, and on a map the two are linked by roads running across open farmland. The town centre forms a compact cluster, and smaller barangays spread outward along the roads in thin lines of settlement.
This is low, well-watered country. Rivers and creeks wind slowly across the plain toward the gulf, and rice fields and fishponds fill much of the space between settlements. The town's layout reflects that: houses gather along the roads, and the larger gaps between them are mostly cultivated land.
A Mangaldan map poster shows a quiet agricultural pattern rather than a dense city. The poblacion sits at the centre with its church and plaza, main roads leave it in several directions, and the meandering lines of the waterways give the drawing a soft, flowing texture.
The poblacion forms a compact knot of streets where the main roads meet, the densest part of an otherwise open, spread-out map.
Settlements stretch along the roads in narrow ribbons, a typical lowland pattern that shows up clearly as thin lines reaching into the fields.
Slow rivers and creeks cross the plain on their way to Lingayen Gulf, adding soft, curving lines between the straighter roads.

Ko e hā ʻa Mangaldan
For many Filipinos abroad, a hometown in Pangasinan is a map they carry in memory. A poster of Mangaldan brings that geography into the room, simple and unshowy, with the family's place at its centre.
Change the title to a family name or barangay, add a date in the subtitle, and set the coordinates to your house. Choose one of five styles and buy the $9 HD files, or order a matte print with an optional frame.
