Mankayan lies in the province of Benguet, high in the Cordillera of northern Luzon. It is best known for its long history of copper and gold mining, which shaped the town and the terrain around it. From above, this is a landscape of steep ridges and deep valleys, where roads and settlements cling to the available slopes.
There is no single grid here. Roads loop and switch back along the mountainsides, linking the town centre with barangays spread across the hills. Many slopes are worked as terraced vegetable gardens, a familiar sight in Benguet. Streams run in narrow valleys below, and they add fine, winding lines between the roads on the map.
A Mankayan map poster captures that vertical character in a flat drawing. The switchbacks and scattered clusters of buildings trace the mountains even without contour lines. In black and white, the result is intricate and organic, a portrait of a highland town where mining, farming and steep terrain have shaped every route.

Mankayan has a long history of copper and gold mining. Mine areas and the settlements built around them are part of the town's layout.
Streams run through narrow valleys between the ridges. Their thin, winding lines add depth to the open spaces between the roads.
