Maple Valley lies in southeast King County, where the Puget Sound lowland starts rising toward the Cascades. The city was incorporated in 1997, and on the map it reads as newer suburban country: winding collector roads, looping cul-de-sacs, and neighbourhoods set among tall conifers, with no traditional downtown grid.
