Maulavi Bāzār, often written Moulvibazar, is the administrative centre of a district in the Sylhet Division of north-eastern Bangladesh. The town sits on the Manu River, which loops through the landscape before joining the Kushiyara. From above, the streets gather along the riverbanks, with low green country stretching away on every side. Roads and crossings tie the two banks together.
The district is one of the centres of Bangladesh's tea industry, with estates spread over the low hills around Sreemangal. It also includes Hakaluki Haor, one of the largest wetlands in the country.
