Melur lies northeast of Madurai, on the road that runs on towards Tiruchirappalli. From above, the town is a tight cluster of streets around its main road. Around it the pattern loosens quickly into a patchwork of fields, tanks and field boundaries. On a black-and-white print that contrast is the whole story: a small, dense core with open farmland on every side.
The land around Melur is flat farmland broken by bare rocky outcrops. The granite hills of this part of Madurai district stand out as blank shapes among the fine lines of cultivated plots. Irrigation water from the Periyar–Vaigai system reaches the area through channels, and on a map these channels read as long, faint strokes that the town's streets sometimes follow and sometimes cross.
A Melur map poster suits someone who knows the town at street level: the bus stand, the temple lanes, the road out to the fields. Seen from above, the place is modest and clear. There are no ring roads or grand boulevards, just the honest geometry of a working town that grew along a highway and still depends on the land around it.
The main road between Madurai and Tiruchirappalli runs straight through Melur. On the map it works as the town's spine, with smaller streets branching off it on both sides.
Irrigation tanks and canal lines surround the town. They show up as smooth outlines and thin threads that break up the tighter grain of the field boundaries around them.
Low rocky hills rise out of the plain near Melur. With no streets or plots on them, they print as quiet, empty islands among the busy lines of the farmland.

Ko e hā ʻa Melur
Some people hang Melur because they grew up here, and some because a family's roots lead back to this corner of Madurai district. Either way, the map keeps the town's real layout on the wall without any decoration.
You can add a family name, a year or the coordinates line as your title. Pick Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. The digital HD files cost $9 and come as a 300 DPI PNG and a print-ready PDF in six sizes.
