Miami occupies a narrow strip of land between the Everglades and Biscayne Bay. From above, the eastern edge is almost all water. Causeways reach across the bay to the barrier islands, the port sits on its own artificial island, and the Rickenbacker Causeway runs south to Key Biscayne. The rest of the city spreads west in a regular, nearly unbroken grid.
The street system is built on a quadrant plan. Flagler Street and Miami Avenue meet downtown and divide the city into numbered streets and avenues in every direction. The Miami River runs diagonally through this order, winding from the west to the bay and separating downtown from the high-rise district of Brickell. South of it, the grid gives way to the leafier, curving streets of Coconut Grove.
A Miami map poster records a city that is young by American standards. It was incorporated in 1896 and is often described as the only major US city founded by a woman, Julia Tuttle. The contrast is clear on the page: straight lines across the mainland, irregular islands in the bay, and the river cutting through them.

Miami holds strong memories for many people, from a first apartment in Brickell to family in Little Havana or winters by the bay. Its mix of grid and water makes a clean, striking poster.
Add a name, a neighbourhood or a date to the title and subtitle, and keep the coordinates. Blueprint and Noir suit the bay's large blank areas, while Paper and Sand give it a warmer tone.
