Mibu is a town in southern Tochigi Prefecture, on the flat northern edge of the Kantō plain, a short distance south of Utsunomiya. The land is level and largely agricultural, and on a map the town appears as a modest urban core with residential streets spreading out between fields and farm roads.
In the Edo period Mibu was a castle town, and the site of Mibu Castle is now a public park near the centre. The town is also home to Dokkyo Medical University, whose campus and hospital occupy a large area, and to a park and museum dedicated to toys that draws families from across the region.
