Milan is one of Europe's clearest radial cities. From the cathedral square at its centre, streets fan outward like spokes and are crossed by successive rings. The innermost follows the course of the Cerchia dei Navigli, a canal ring filled in during the twentieth century; the next traces the line of the sixteenth-century Spanish walls; further out, broad ring roads complete the pattern.
The capital of Lombardy is Italy's centre of finance and fashion, and the refectory of Santa Maria delle Grazie holds Leonardo da Vinci's Last Supper. Northwest of the centre, the Castello Sforzesco and the long rectangle of Parco Sempione form one of the largest open shapes on the map, closed at the far end by the Arco della Pace.
In the southwest, the surviving navigli break the circles, running out from the Darsena basin as straight lines of water. A Milan map poster captures this interplay of rings, spokes and canals, together with the rail lines converging on Stazione Centrale and the dense fabric of courtyard blocks that fills the spaces between them, from the old centre out to the newer towers of Porta Nuova.

The Naviglio Grande and Naviglio Pavese leave the Darsena as long straight canals heading southwest and south, remnants of a waterway network that once carried marble to build the cathedral.
The Castello Sforzesco and Parco Sempione form a large green rectangle northwest of the centre, ending at the Arco della Pace, where the straight Corso Sempione sets off toward the northwest.

Ko e hā ʻa Milan
Milan is a city people move to for work, study or design, and one they tend to remember precisely: the tram to the office, the flat near the canals, the walk past the castle. Its ordered circular plan makes a strong graphic image that works equally well in a living room or a studio.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line with a neighbourhood, a date or a name. Five styles are available: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. Noir gives the dense rings a sharp, editorial look, while Blueprint brings out the engineering of the canals.
