Moundou is one of the largest cities in Chad and the main centre of the country's south-west. It lies on the Logone Occidental river, and on a map the river forms a long, gentle curve along one side of the city. Streets extend from the riverbank across flat ground, forming a broad and fairly regular network that gradually loosens into more scattered settlements at the edges.
The city has long been linked to cotton and to a well-known brewery, and its economy has shaped the layout of main roads, industrial sites and markets.
